Keto Hot Chocolate Cocoa – Delicious and Easy to Make

Keto Hot Chocolate Cocoa at Cjsketokitchen!  This is a easy to make keto version of a comfort food classic. I have often thought when making hot chocolate for our kids that it was one of those foods/drinks that I missed.  So this is a Keto Low Carb friendly version of this classic comfort food drink.  We’ve seen various versions of this recipe all over the internet even on non Keto specific sites like Delish, so it’s a real thing and if you’ve missed enjoying a cup of hot cocoa then this recipe is for you.  It’s easy to make and truly delicious. Enjoy!

Autumn! We all crave summer in the winter… But towards the end of summer, we start to crave autumn… Why? It’s the fresh fall breeze that you breathe in as you step out the door… seeing a swirl of fallen leaves dancing ….And an evening at home when you’re sipping your favorite hot drink under a blanket with scented candles burning on your coffee table. Autumn just screams hot drinks, skip the Starbucks line, and make your own homemade delicious hot cocoa. You will know for sure that every ingredient fits into your ketogenic lifestyle.

The fragrant aroma’s of hot cocoa tell you that autumn is in the air… A warm and delicious drink to curl up with this fall.

The fall season brings with it cooler weather, falling leaves, sweaters, and most definitely nice hot drinks. Unlike just about any other autumn food item… Which can be eaten any time of year if planned right… Hot drinks, just seem to be one of those things that seem to be reserved for the cooler weather. I always seem to skip steamy mugs of hot chocolate in warm summer months. But on our recent vacation trip my children had unicorn hot chocolate….. which got me thinking, I sometimes miss hot chocolate, and so I thought I would try to re-create a thick and creamy decadently rich ketogenic hot chocolate, or cocoa, however you wanna put it.

The first chocolate drink is believed to have been created by the Mayans around 3000 years ago. The drink became popular in Europe after being introduced from Mexico in the New World and has undergone multiple changes since then. Archaeologists have even found evidence that Mayan chocolate consumption occurred as early as 500 BC.… Because sugar was yet to come to the Americas, traditional Mayan hot chocolate did not have any sweetener in it ,and it tasted spicy and bitter, as opposed to sweetened modern hot cocoa.

The distinction between “hot cocoa”made from cocoa powder… And “hot chocolate“, made directly from bar chocolate is the main difference between the two. My recipe includes both, so it could be HOT CHOCOLATE COCOA. Hehe.

Either way today hot chocolate, or Cocoa is considered a comfort food and widely consumed in many parts of the world. Why shouldn’t we get to enjoy such a fabulous comforting food, while still appreciating the low sugar fat lifestyle.

FOLLOW-UP TASTE TEST by C.J.

This was a pleasant surprise for me.  When Sarah told me that she was making Keto Hot Chocolate/Cocoa, I was like “Ok, why?” But as I think about it this was one of the drinks/foods that I sort of missed and sometimes craved.  This was really simple to make, and a lot of you will already have the ingredients you need in your pantries.  The cocoa tasted really good, if I hadn’t been there shooting the video and was just served the drink I would not know the difference.  As we made it on video it wasn’t super sweet, but that actually was fine with me.  I’m realizing that my body deals with anything sweet just like it was sugar, so I’m making some changes anyway.  This will be a nice treat from time to time, and I look forward to being able to enjoy a cup as fall and winter approach here in the United States.  I think you’ll really enjoy this recipe.  Don’t forget you can share photos or your creations over in the Facebook Group or on Pinterest.

  1. Any chance you could find a recipe plugin that allows metric conversion? This by-volume cup measurements really should end! People *will* get vastly different results depending on the fineness of their ingredients and the water moisture.
