So don’t be alarmed… You have indeed come to the right blog. I know you might be a little surprised about the amount of green in today’s post, I know broccoli salad is a little different from what you are used to seeing here… Especially from the casserole queen😂
I wanted to revisit an old favorite we made years ago at the start of our channel. This has been such a favorite for us and I wanted to reshare.
Broccoli salad is one of my very favorite side dishes… It’s perfect for serving alongside whatever you might be barbecuing this weekend.
It’s simple and refreshing, it keeps well, and it can be thrown together in just a few minutes.
I guarantee you that at least one person will ask you for the recipe wherever you bring it.
Tips for making the best broccoli salad:
Broccoli salad is very easy to make, but there are a few tips I wanted to share with you to make everything come together just perfectly.
We’re buying cheese for your broccoli salad, the thicker the shred the better… If you have cheese that is to find it can tend to disappear in the salad.
Sharp or extra sharp cheddar it’s really quite delicious because it provides such a nice contrast in the salad.
Another option is to cut the cheese into small cubes instead of shredding it… They do it often like that in deli salads.
This definitely isn’t the time to be stingy with the bacon… The intense smokiness pairs so well with the tangy dressing and crunchy onions.
I am very partial to bacon crumbles… They are so much easier to rewarm and use verses frying up bacon. But either one will do.
FOR BEST TASTE, LET IT SIT!
While this easy broccoli salad can be served right away, I definitely prefer to let it sit in the refrigerator for at the very least, a few hours, and best of all overnight.
I really feel helps meld together the flavors and it can be prepared several days in advance of serving if you desire. We waited overnight, and that was excellent!
Crunch, Crunch, Crunch
Something I did differently all these year later is the addition of pumpkin seeds(pepitas). It really adds just a little something to an already delicious salad. Sunflower seeds would be amazing here as well. I do appreciate the high fiber, low carbs value of pumpkin seeds.

Well this recipe is a bit of a REMIX from a recipe we made 4 years ago, WOW time has flown by. The addition of the pumpkin seeds absolutely makes a difference and the addition of the bacon takes this recipe over the top! This is great for the summer and those upcoming family gatherings. Enjoy!

Ultimate Bacon Broccoli Salad
- 5 Cups of Raw Chopped Broccoli
- 1/3 of one medium red onion
- 8 Slices of cooked bacon or 1 cup of bacon crumbles
- 1 cup of grated thick cut cheddar Cheese
- 1 Cup of Broccoli Slaw
- 1 Cup of Mayonnaise
- 2 Tablespoons of ranch or a dressing of your choice
- 3 Tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar
- Liquid Sugar Free Sweetener Your Choice
- Salt and pepper
- 1 cup pepitas
- 2 tsp herb seasoning
- In a large Bowl add 5 Cups of Raw Chopped Broccoli
- Then add 1/3 of one finely chopped Medium Red Onion
- Add 1 Cup of Broccoli Slaw
- Add 1 Cup of Bacon Crumbles (we suggest heating these up by sautéing in butter to release there flavor) *If your using real bacon ignore that suggestion.
- Add 1 Cup of Grated or shredded Cheddar Cheese
- Begin to mix all of your ingredients well, and mix until well incorporated.
