Low Carb keto Ham & Faux Potato (Turnip) Bake

Country Ham And Faux-tatoes Au Gratin

A delicious potato alterative casserole, using both leftover vegetables and ham, baked in a creamy cheese sauce.

This easy au gratin recipe is one I’ve been using for ages, a tried and true dish perfect for a holiday dinner or special occasions, such as Easter!

This recipe is slightly different than traditional au gratin, because this version transforms a humble root vegetable into a creamy, comforting s dish that’s perfect for any occasion. Thinly sliced turnips are layered with a rich cheese sauce, savory ham, and then baked to golden, bubbly perfection.

What do you make for special occasions? Let me attempt to answer an age-old question with the comfort food everyone absolutely loves baked to perfection in a casserole dish. ANYTHING smothered in cheese sauce is always a winner!

Turnips are considered a lower carbohydrate replacement for potatoes. I love all things potatoes but occasionally, I get a craving for the earthy, slightly stronger taste of turnips.

To ensure less bitter turnips, try and choose baby turnips, or as close to golf ball size as you can find.

If you don’t have leftover ham, pick up a ham steak from the meat department or just ask your local market deli to slice you a chunk 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.

They’ll be happy to do that for you! Ham can vary in its salt level, so keep that in mind when seasoning the potatoes. If you have a fairly salty ham, you may not want any added salt.

Additionally, you can often find already cubed ham in packages.
